Obesity is a significant contributor to multiple chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, and it continues to be a growing concern in the community, especially among Hispanic and low-income populations. Creating a community health center (CHC) in high-risk areas of Miami-Dade County could provide accessible, affordable, and culturally competent care to underserved populations. CHCs can offer preventive care, nutrition counseling, obesity screening, and lifestyle education programs tailored to community needs. Studies show that CHCs significantly improve health outcomes and reduce disparities by addressing both medical and social determinants of health (Shin et al., 2022). These centers can also facilitate partnerships with local organizations and schools to promote physical activity and healthy eating habits at a community level. As a nurse practitioner and nurse leader, I can play a vital role in advocating for policies that address obesity at both clinical and legislative levels. This includes supporting funding for preventive care programs, encouraging insurance coverage for nutrition and exercise interventions, and engaging in health education campaigns. Moreover, by collaborating with public health departments and policymakers, I can help develop evidence-based interventions and propose community-focused health policies aimed at long-term weight management and chronic disease prevention (Thomas et al., 2020). By leveraging clinical expertise and policy knowledge, nurse leaders can be powerful agents of change in combating the obesity epidemic.
