NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 1 Discussion Collaboration Cafe: Moving to the Execution Phase Most of what you did in NR631, and some of what you'll do in NR632 is part of the planning phase of project management. Although it took us eight weeks to get here, in reality, most of what you've done would have been completed in one or two weeks. For this week's assignment you'll be preparing your kickoff presentation which is kind of a "pep rally" for your project. Your goal is to get everyone motivated and excited to start working on implementing the practice change. As you think about your transition from planning to execution (doing), what are some of the biggest challenges you foresee and what can you do to prepare for those challenges? NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 2 Discussion Time/Schedule, Cost, Quality

Choose any two:

Time/schedule Cost Quality In project management, you will read about and experience what is often referred to as the "triple constraint triangle." We introduced it in an earlier lesson in NR631. The idea is that, with any project, you can really only achieve two sides of the triangle. Share your thoughts on that concept and then share which side of the triangle poses the greatest threat of constraint for your project. NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 3 Discussion Cultural Humility Cultural diversity—along with the currently popular concept cultural humility—is an evidence-based concept that has evolved over time and is a priority among professional organizations and accrediting bodies. In most instances when your institution, team, or program is reviewed, you'll be asked some questions about these concepts. As you think about your project, share how you see your project being sensitive to cultural diversity or cultural humility in your organization or target population. Apply evidence-based best practices for cultural diversity, cultural humility, and inclusion to your project. NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 4 Discussion Advocacy When we think of advocacy, many nurses think about how they advocate for their patients and/or families. Or you may think of situations where you advocate for a colleague, direct report, or team. Those are all legitimate aspects of advocacy and important for nurses. You've probably heard an instructor or mentor say that in aspiring to executive-level leadership, a transition occurs in your outlook. Your view expands exponentially as you become responsible for many teams and sometimes an entire organization. For this week's discussion about advocacy, think about a policy, cause, or large-scale issue for which you are, or can become, an advocate or champion. As you look at successful nurse leaders and executives, you'll very likely find that they are involved in some cause such as breast cancer research, childhood obesity, the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa, or the heroin epidemic, and so on. In your growth toward senior levels of leadership, begin to think about where and how you will be involved as an advocate or champion. NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 5 Discussion Professional Organizations and Journals for the Nurse Executive As alluded to in the lesson introduction, this week's discussion will focus on relevant professional organizations and scholarly journals of interest and value to the nurse executive. You can choose to focus on one of the following directions for your discussion this week. Executive leadership practice: Identify at least one professional organization and one scholarly journal that you feel would be valuable for you to be actively involved with to enhance your role as a nurse leader. What is it about these resources that make them valuable? How can they help you develop in your nurse executive competencies? Advocacy: Identify at least one professional organization and one scholarly journal that you feel would be valuable in helping you promote the cause or issue you identified in last week's lesson. What is it about these resources that make them valuable? How can they help you promote your cause or issue? NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 6 Discussion Collaboration Cafe: Closing the Project The term closing for projects is a misnomer. Many times, the PM and/or the team were the champions of the change and you drove the passion and motivation. Far too many amazing projects revert back to the prior status quo not long after the PM team has moved onto their next project. Just because you and your team have done a great job in planning and executing the project and it was running well when you left, doesn't mean that you can just assume it will continue successfully. How do we sustain the practice change that we sought to make? When you're gone and onto your next project, what will happen to the one you just closed? What strategies have you put in place to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of your project? When you check back in after a year, what will it look like? NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 7 Discussion Presenting Your Scholarly Work This week, you will complete a PowerPoint presentation of your project. Think about your most immediate presentation opportunity and target audience. Based on your experience, recommended reading, and personal research, what are some of the key strategies necessary to effectively connect with your target audience? NR632 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience II Week 8 Discussion Reflection on Executive Concluding Graduate Experience Final Assignment Reflect on the Capstone Project and identify the contributions it has made to your professional development and attainment of career goals. Discuss how you've seen yourself grow as a result of your studies. What are your thoughts about your next steps professionally, educationally, or even personally? Do you feel that what you have learned and experienced in this MSN program has provided value to you professionally and/or personally?
