UNCONSCIOUS BIAS
Jordyn lives on the south side of the city which is known for a high crime rate, poor school systems, and low-income families. She arrives at the local clinic across town. Student Walden 000-000-0000 To the Iowa State Senate 111 Seventh Street Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 Dear Legislator/Senator, Iowa is one of the few states in the United States without motorcycle helmet safety laws. I would like to educate motorcyclists on the benefits of wearing a helmet and the long-term health effects of brain injury if such an event would occur. The current laws are not protecting our motorcyclist out on the road. Motorcyclists are more likely to die in a crash compared to those riding in an enclosed vehicle. Health effects from motorcycle crashes can result in long term traumatic brain injury resulting in an economic cost for society. I am asking the current legislation to mandate all motorcycle riders to wear helmets. Please support Bill 586 to mandate motorcycle helmets for all riders in the state of Iowa.
