Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's credit hours by the grade points earned (e.g., A = 4.0). Sum all quality points, then divide by total credit hours. The result is your Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale.
What is the difference between term GPA and cumulative GPA?
Term GPA covers only one semester or quarter. Cumulative GPA includes every graded course across all terms. Use the "Target GPA Planner" section above to see what term GPA you need to reach a cumulative goal.
Do Pass/Fail courses affect my GPA?
At most US colleges, Pass/Fail (P/F) courses do not count toward your GPA. Our calculator excludes them by default when the "Exclude Pass/Fail" toggle is on.
Does my school use plus/minus grading?
It depends on your institution. Many universities award A−, B+, B−, etc. with fractional grade points (e.g., A− = 3.7). Check your registrar's grading policy. You can toggle +/− grading on or off in the calculator above.
What GPA do I need for Dean's List?
Requirements vary, but most schools require a term GPA of 3.5 or higher with a minimum number of graded credits (often 12). Check your school's academic policies for exact criteria.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. All calculations run entirely in your browser. We never see, store, or transmit your grades.
